Testimonial vs Review

The difference between requested customer praise and open feedback.

Testimonial vs. Review

While often used interchangeably, testimonials and reviews have distinct differences in the world of marketing.

Testimonials

  • Solicited & Curated: You ask a happy customer for a quote, and you choose which ones to display.
  • Always Positive: Testimonials are inherently marketing collateral.
  • Static: Often hardcoded on a website.

Reviews

  • Open & Third-Party: Collected via specific platforms (like Reviewlee, Google, Trustpilot).
  • Mixed Sentiment: Can include negative feedback.
  • Dynamic: Continuously updated as new feedback comes in.

Which is better?

Reviews are generally seen as more trustworthy because the business has less control over them. However, testimonials are powerful for specific narrative selling on landing pages.
