Moderation Policy

Last updated: June 15, 2025

At Reviewlee, our mission is to build trust through transparency. We believe that authentic reviews are crucial for everyone. Our moderation policy is designed to balance the need for businesses to manage their online presence with the public’s right to see honest, unfiltered feedback. We call this model "Immutable but Controllable."

Our Core Principle: You Own the Data, Not the Truth

This means that while you have full ownership and control over your review data—to export, analyze, or display it as you see fit—you cannot alter the substance of a customer's opinion. Authenticity is paramount.

What Businesses Can Do

  • Respond to Reviews: We encourage open dialogue. Businesses can and should respond to any review, positive or negative, to engage with their customers.
  • Hide Reviews (with Transparency): In cases of spam, abuse, or off-topic content, businesses can hide a review from public view. This action is always logged and transparent. The hidden review is not deleted but is archived and visible in the business's dashboard.
  • Flag for Moderation: If a review violates our content standards (e.g., contains hate speech, private information, or is clearly spam), businesses can flag it for our team to review.

What Businesses Cannot Do

  • Delete Reviews: To maintain integrity, businesses cannot permanently delete any review submitted by a customer.
  • Edit Review Content: The customer's original text and rating cannot be altered.
  • Silence Customers: Hiding reviews without a valid reason that aligns with our policies is a violation of our terms. We monitor moderation actions to prevent abuse.

Our Transparency Commitment

To ensure fairness and prevent censorship, we are committed to being transparent about moderation actions.

  • Public Indicators: A business's public review profile may display a notice indicating how many reviews have been hidden (e.g., "This business has hidden 2 out of 143 reviews").
  • Moderation Log: All hiding actions are logged with a reason (e.g., 'Spam', 'Inappropriate Content'). This log is accessible to the business and to Reviewlee's administrative team.

The Reviewer's Rights

We also protect the person leaving the review. If a reviewer believes their review was hidden unfairly, they may have the right to an appeal in the future (feature coming soon). Reviewers are notified when their review is hidden.
